                                                   Pango Pango

                                                                     With a 5000LBS keel

"Pango Pango" was thrown ashore during hurricane WILMA on Sliver Shores in Taveriner Key, her mast falling onto a second story home.

"Pango Pango" has had many attempts to salvage her ( WITH NO LUCK ) before the job was handed over to Captain Lee McCune of Poseidon Towing & Salvage. After being inspected by Captain Lee McCune he found that Pango Pango had a solid 5,000lbs keel wedged into the rocks on the shoreline.

Captain Lee planned 2 pulls for "Pango Pango" salvage. The first pull was to lay "Pango Pango" onto her side so that her keel could be removed and then patch the hole from the keels removal, trying to manipulate a solid 5,000lbs keel with just manpower because of it's location, off the rocks up & over a ledge where Jimmy Jr. from Guy's Towing was waiting. It was one of the toughest salvage we have done in the FEMA contract.

It took 5 people from Poseidon to move this keel. We had to get close enough for Jimmy Jr. to get ahold of it with the hydralic wench. Once the keel was placed on the bed of the truck, the truck's front wheels lifted off the ground.

With "Pango Pango" being in shallow water. We had to wait until hi-tide before we made our pull, with the keel removed Pango Pango slide off the rocks with no problems. "Pango Pango" had so much storm damage to her, that she started to take on water after she was pulled offshore.

Having to re-salvage her on the water in the middle of her tow, We put a crew aboard "Pango Pango" with pumps and divers in the water to wrap her in plastic sheeting.

"Pango Pango" made it to the boat launch, where Poseidon Towing & Salvage's land crew was waiting with a trailer to bring "Pango Pango" to the crushing site.

The night of "Pango Pango's "salvage we anchored off Sliver Shores. There was a party thrown that evening on the shoreline in honor of "Pango Pango's " salavge. Fireworks were shot over the water, Poseidon IV & her crew.
